1. Create your own website design site for free. This is something that you can’t do long, demand will be too high. This way you can promote yourself and at the same time point to your paid site as an alternative to the free version. The question people always ask is why would anyone pay when they can get it for free? Well no one said work 80 hours a week for free. Build a partnership with complimentary people. If you are great at setting up and running a blog find a company that will help you. Find a site that makes site logos, another that gives technical support and a third that offers a shopping cart service. Content creation, traffic generation, keyword selections and so on, the list is really quite long. You play the middle man to have a happy client, and you only need to pull in those few services that you can’t supply yourself. Side benefit to this, you may learn what your partners do and expand your skill set. 5. Affiliate yourself with other websites that sell different services. Your main website can sell domain names, hosting services, shopping cart services, training and many other products and services. These are things that you will probably never do; few people move from designing websites to hosting hundred of thousands of websites. 6. Subcontract yourself to the people who you use as subcontractors. If you have a graphic artist on your subcontractor list he may need your services, or part of your offering. Anyone you hire should know that you want to be hired back. 7. Teach online classes if your field. There are people that want to learn, no matter what you do there are people that want to learn how to do it. Teach classes for free at first, like the first item on this list you make a class offering. People learn and become future clients. 8. Enter any website design contests you can, and create your own. If you sell a service you are a professional. You may be judging people who are more talented than you, but the objective is to meet people, build your reputation and eventually turn this into clients. |
