Blogging seems to be the only thing that you hear about on the internet. But does that automatically make it the right thing for you or your business? How do you know when you should actually start a blog? A blog is simply a website that orders the content in reverse chronological order (last post on top); reader interaction is important; a subscription system is available for updates; and the posts are arranged into some type of archive system so readers can find information based on site specific keywords. The best way to find out if a blog is right for you or your business is to look at the top 5 reasons to start a blog. 1. You don't need any programming skills. Whether you use a free blogging platform or a a platform that you host, you can have a site up and running within minutes for the free version and in a few short hours if you own the domain. Do you need an easy way to get your information out? A blog can be the easiest. 2. You can add content easily and often. Do you have information that updates on a regular basis? If you do, as soon as you hit the 'publish' button your content is immediately available and the search engines will see the update nearly real time. 3. Search engines are ravenous for up-to-date content because we searching for information want the most up to date. By their very nature, blogs provide fresh content on a regular basis--usually daily. 4. Do you want to build a community? Blogs were meant to stimulate interaction between the blog owner and the blog readers. Through this interaction, they build communities and the blog owner can learn valuable information for his business (if it's a business blog). This can also lead to a membership site - totally different topic, but if you want a community that pays for your content 5. Do you want to make money on the internet? Blogs are a great way to make money - although sometimes I think the people that make the most money are those that teach how to make money. Those are the top 4 signs that you are ready to begin a blog. Blogs have other advantages as well. Start a free blog to see if it is for you, but make the decision to move on to a domain name that you own quickly. If you change domain you risk losing your readers. |
